ARTIST STATEMENT

My art is about hope and growth, from the past and the present of my surroundings. I like to imagine memory as something tangible that sticks to the space around us, giving them this tangibly; the spaces around me create a history. When this history includes care, empathy, and/or positive interaction, these sentiments can become attached to places all around us and begin to pop up into the present as marks. In my work, I want to capture moments of hope and peace through layered memories of what’s good and the surrounding that make up those memories through these marks of color, shapes, and lines.

By using marks and layers to create these memories, I’m able to include many different aspects of my practice, from drawing to sewing. These marks all have a moment in time were they present themself as inspiration or importance. Along with repetition, I create spaces of these as a reflection and meditation of where I once was and where I’m now
